The same topology was obtained under weighted parsimony (down-weighting transitions at third codon positions). Bootstrap values for weighted parsimony (with transition:transversion changes at third codon positions weighted 1:5) and for ME analysis are shown above and below each branch, respectively. Only a single label was used to represent each population/species instead of two as shown in Fig. 2. Important nodes and North American clades discussed in the text are labeled A-C and numbered 1-4, respectively.
